        James Gregory

James Gregory grew up in Derbyshire and Staffordshire and now lives and works in Llantwit Major. He studied at Stoke Polytechnic from 1987 to 1990 attaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art.

Throughout his artistic career he has used a wide variety of mediums and techniques including drawing, painting, photography, digital media and some sculpture. At its core his work is playful, disarming and engaging but always keen to say something about the human condition.
He is currently using paint, canvas, charcoal and paper to make work, a process he began in 2022 with a desire to get back to or revisit the kind of work he was producing over thirty years ago and once again feel the excitement of playing with colour, form and meaning.

          Jane Cook

Having always had a creative streak lurking within, retirement has now given me the time to explore new opportunities. Painting and photography are my main outlets, and although both are frequently frustrating, I love spending time experimenting with different styles and subjects.
Llantwit Major has been my home since 2006 and is so beautiful and inspirational. Membership of the Llantwit Major Photography Club has helped my shooting, however Art & Design A-Level (well over 40 years ago) has been my only training in drawing and painting.

              Nicola Meredith
I live in Dinas Powis, and since art classes in school, have always enjoyed drawing and painting, but the everyday business of family life and work commitments managed to squeeze it out of my life until recently. About a year ago I rediscovered how much I love being creative with paint.
Recently retired from the NHS, art is now featuring much more highly in my life, and I seem to have a paintbrush in my hand most days, which brings me great joy.

                  Roger Keller
I moved to Llantwit in 2015 when I retired from my job with a professional body, The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH). My employment has been in education as a teacher and advisor. At the CIH I was head of education for developing and recognising courses related to Social Housing. I was born and brought up in London but lived most of my adult life in the Midlands of England. Since retiring I have returned to my interest in art, and more recently, developed a keen interest in ceramics.

                    Sarah Davies

I live in Llantwit Major and teach Textiles and Art at St Cyres School. I am currently working on a series of mixed media textile pieces exploring the changing landscape of the beach and our local countryside. My work is very textual and I use reclaimed fabrics and yarns and collage these together to create land and seascapes. I tend to work on Calico fabric and start off by mono printing or laying down washes using Inktense blocks. I then use scrap fabrics and yarns to build up areas and use my sewing machine to create the details. The stitches are as important as the fabrics themselves. In some pieces I use hand embroidery too.

                          Stephanie Stewart

Prior to 2018, Stephanie was known to say, “I am not very creative at all!   Creativity is just not my thing.”  After one important prayer time, this all changed.  While a friend was praying for Stephanie, He felt that God may be inviting Steph to more ‘fun’.  The friend ask Steph to think about something she had always wanted to try, but never had…  and ‘painting’ came to Stephanie’s mind.

That very next week (November 2018), Steph went online and purchased simple watercolour paints, paper and a few brushes.  …and she has been painting nearly every day of her life since then!

With still much room to grow in her craft, Stephanie now paints a variety of landscape watercolour scenes.  Her favourite motifs include boats, water, trees and green valleys.  Having grown up with summers on a sail boat in California and now having lived in Llantwit Major, Wales, these past 15 years, she has learned to see and appreciate the far reaching colours in a sea or skyscape; as well as the various tones and sparks of greens to be found in the wild Welsh hills.

Painting at home in her small corner of the world, or painting ‘en plein air’, Steph simply must paint!

                            Vicki Washbourne
I have been painting landscapes in watercolour for several years, for the most part self taught, except for several winters of evening classes, workshops and tutored painting holidays. Artists that have inspired me and influenced my paintings are Wesson, Ransom, Blockley and Peter Cronin.
Painting outside in Wales in often a challenge as I strive to capture the ever changing modes of the weather and the essence of the scene in front of me. I have been successful in reaching the final of Patching’s and Crickhowell Open Art competitions.
